Request a basement water inspection
Water on the floor right now, or a sump pump that just quit? Call. If it's a crack you've been keeping an eye on, a pump that's getting old, or a basement that's damp rather than wet, a request works fine and a waterproofing company will get back to you.
Before you call
It helps to have:
- The street address, so we can match you with a company that works in your city, town or village
- What you're seeing: a puddle at the wall base, a dripping crack, a wet window well, a busy sump, or damp air
- The timing: after every storm, mostly in March and April, or when the Chemung River and creeks run high
- What the walls are made of, if you know: poured concrete, block, brick or fieldstone
- Whether the space is finished, and whether a radon fan pipe runs through the floor
Is the Chemung River or a creek coming over its banks? That's a flood, and it's an emergency-management problem before it's a waterproofing one. Follow Chemung County and city instructions, keep out of standing water that might touch outlets or appliances, and only switch off basement circuits if the electrical panel can be reached from dry ground.
